Vandercar, 78, route three, a retired Lake Odessa farmer, died Friday at the White Convalescent home in Nashville where he had been a patient several months. He was born May 27, 1881 in Ionia county, the son of Arthur and Alice (Garman) Vandercar, and had spent most of his life in the Lake Odessa area. He retired from farming in 1943. Prior to his retirement Mr. Vandercar served as a director of the Odessa Center Rural school for a number of years and was also active in the Lakeside grange. He was married to Florence B. Clark December 25, 1901. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Arden (Thelma) McLaughlin of Lake Odessa; four sons, Clayton, Vaughn, Max (Roy), and Claire, all of Lansing; one brother, William of Long Beach, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. The body of Mr. Vandercar is at the Pickens funeral home where services are pending word from a son, Vaughn, who is in Florida.
