Judi was born on August 17, 1938 in Ionia, the daughter of Albert and Jane (Steadman) Benedict. Judy had a love for playing the organ and piano, reading and writing, cooking, traveling and camping. From the time she was 13 until her retirement at age 65 she served as organist and later choir director for the Lyons Methodist Church, Muir Presbyterian Church and Lyons/Muir Church. She was a woman of great faith and instilled and encouraged that faith in countless others throughout her life. Her travels with he husband, Bob, included England, Scotland and Wales, also a year residing in Seoul, South Korea teaching conversational English. Throughout their married life, Judi and Bobs family enjoyed camping trips from Michigan's UP to Florida. After retirement, Judi and Bob traveled extensively throughout the southern United States, eventually purchasing a second home in Louisiana. Wherever she went, Judi always made new friends, many of which remained close. Judi had a love of writing, contributing to works onLyns history, writing a memoir on her experiences in Korea and also other works of fiction. Judi was a avid reader of both classic and modern literature, and committed NY Times cruciverbalist. She is survived by her husband, Bob of Ionia; sons, Jon (Debbie) VanderVeen of Grand Rapids and Derek VanderVeen of Iowa; daughter-in-law,Keli Fell of Rockford, sister, Susan (Stefan)Laxdal of South Carolina; and sister-in-law, Gail Benedict of Woodland; grandchildrenHeather (Ron) Stacey, Zachary Fell (Samantha),Catherine Fell, Colin VanderVeen and Aubrey VanderVeen, many great grandchildren and close friend of the family Deanne Schafer Fell. Judi was preceded in death by her parents: son, Scott Fell; and brother Alan Benedict. There will be no services planned at this time. Arrangements in care of Lake Funeral Home of Ionia.
