(Rik) VanDeusen, 38, of Orleans passed away Sun., Feb. 24, 2002 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 30, 1964 in Greenville, the son of Rik and Ginny VanDeusen. He graduated from Ionia High School class of 1982. He went on to work with his dad in the family business at Ionia Hardware. Rik drove school bus for Ionia Public Schools for several years. He also worked for Vigil Pung’s dairy farm and for Earl Benedict before moving on to Gallagher farms and most recently he worked for Coryell Trucking, all of whom he considered his friends first and employers second. He married the former Brenda Leik on June 24, 1989 at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Ionia, and then was blessed with two wonderful children, Rikie and Katie. Rik is survived by his wife, Brenda; children Rikie and Katie; his parents, Rik and Ginny of Ionia; his brother, Andy of Ionia; grandfather, Ken Ward of Stanton; father and mother-in-law, William (Shirley) Leik of Ionia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Cathy) Leik of Grand Rapids, Pat (Doug) Brown and Julie (Luke White) Leik all of Ionia; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and several very close friends. Rik will be welcomed into Heaven by his grandparents, R.G. and Lelah VanDeusen, Maxine Ward, Ted and Marion Whitford; sister-in-law, Pam VanDeusen; and uncles, Tom, John and Ted. Visitation for Rik was held on Monday at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia with Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. Music will be provided by Mary Cusack and Sari Mercer. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Orleans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you are asked to consider a contribution of the VanDeusen children’s educational trust fund or the Ionia Area Hospice in care of Cook Funeral Home.
