May 28, 2016 RIK G. VAN DEUSEN Rik G. Van Deusen, age 81 of Ionia, Michigan passed away May 24, 2016 in Ionia. He was born Dec. 2, 1934 in Buchanan, Michigan to R. G. and Lelah (Turner) Van Deusen. He later moved to Ionia with his family in 1947, where they purchased the Ionia Hardware Store "Corner Store with the Corner Door." Rik graduated from Ionia High School Class of 1953. He then attended Alma college on a Baseball Scholarship. After completing college, he was drafter into the Army in 1958 where he served with company B 1st Battle group 30th heavy weapons infantry. In 1960 he was picked to be on the 7th Army Honor Guard Marching in Kabul, Afganistan and Munich, Germany. Rik was honorably discharged in 1963 and then came home to take over the family business. He loved softball, golf and bowling. He was an avid Tigers, Lions and MSU fan. He will be sadly missed by his family and many of the lives he touched over the years. Rik is survived by his wife Virginia "Ginny" Van Deusen of Ionia; son, Andrew (Brandi) Van Deusen of Ionia; grandchildren, Jeremy Andrew Van Deusen and Misty, Richard William Van Deusen, Kathryn Caroline Van Deusen; great grandchildren, Aubrey Hazel Van Deusen; daughter-in-law, Brenda Van Deusen of Orleans; nieces and nephews; and sister, Anne Beach of California. Rik was preceded in death by his parents; son Richard Ted; brothers Tom, Jon; daughter-in-law, Pamela; and brother-in-law, Charles. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Jun 1, 11 AM at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Luncheon celebration to follow services at Ionia Moose Lodge. Visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home MSU attire is welcomed by his family. Memorial contributions may be made to Ionia Community Awareness of Great Lakes Hospice.
