Ionia County News, 17 Aug 1961

August J. Vandervenne, 70, a longtime merchant in Portland, died on Wednesday,
August 2, at a Lansing hospital.  He was a native of Detroit and a veteran of
World War I.  He had operated a food retail business in Portland for 30 years.

Survivors are his wife, Gertrude; two sons, Joseph of Lansing and Thomas of
Hastings; one daughter, Marilyn at home and one sister, Mrs. Ida Leithead of
Pompano Beach, Florida.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Neller
funeral home in Portland.  Interment was in Greenwood cemetery in Fowlerville.
