July 16, 2013 Jason Lee Van Drie, 40, of Lowell, formerly of Belding, died unexpectedly at his home on July 11, 2013. He was born on Oct. 15, 1972 in Ionia, the son of Gary H. and Janette S. (Spaulding) Van Drie. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1991. During his high school years he participated in as many sports as he could, including his favorites - baseball and football. Following high school he completed several years of college course work and established a family irrigation business, which he co-owned with his brother. Jason was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and camp, taking part in those activities whenever he could, and took his son Jacob with him on his adventures even as an infant. He would float down a river or stream with his gun at the ready, and there was at least one occasion when he had to pause a moment and decide if he should wait until the temperature rose above zero to river fish in the winter. Always willing to enter a new business venture, he recently began farming with his brother. Jackson gave back to the community in many ways, including volunteering as a coach for a youth baseball team. He was a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him. The memory of Jason will be cherished by his family including his mother, Janette of Belding; his son Jacob Gregory Harmon Van Drie, Jacob's mother, Brook Ford of Lowell; his brother, Mark (Rachel) Van Drie of Belding; and his sister Lee Ann (Jay) Anderson of Ionia; nieces and nephews William Anderson, Owen Anderson, Leevi Hansen and Clara Van Drie; aunts and uncles Barbara (Chuck) Hollon of Ionia, Ann (Glenn)Tyson of Belding, Martha (Jim) Conway of Lakeview, Jerry (Sara) Spaulding of Belding, Judy (Mike) White of Trufant and Jack (Marsh) Van Drie of Arizona; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Van Drie in 1997. A Memorial Service will take place at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth St., Shiloh, Mich., with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. The family will greet visitors for an hour prior to the service at church on Monday, beginning at 2 p.m. Those considering an expression of sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution for the benefit of Jason's son, Jacob.
