The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Wednesday, January 29, 1919

Gertude, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William H. Conner, was born in 
Eaton county, Michigan, June 7, 1878.  November 23, 1898, she was united in 
marriage with Ferry A. Van Giesen, of Orleans township.  To them were born 
three children, William Orsen, Agnes Gertude and Julia May.  Early in life she 
accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of her home church 
at Dildine, later joining the Methodist church at Orleans.

She has always been a faithful christian, doing all she could to brighten the 
lives of her dear family and others.  After a brief illness she passed away to 
her heavenly home in the evening of January 20, 1919.

Besides her bereaved family she leaves to mourn her loss two brothers and two 
sisters, B. H. Conner of Burlington, Colorado; W. B. Conner of Belding, Mich.; 
Mrs. A. C. Haynor and her twin sister, Mrs. F. A. Waters of Ionia and many 
other relatives and friends.  

The funeral services were held from the home Thursday afternoon, Jan. 23, 
1919, conducted by Rev. C. C. Buckner of Ionia, assisted by Rev. Birdsall of 
Orleans.  The bearers were John Van Giesen, Henry Neilson, Merton Eaves, W. B. 
Conner, Selden Conner and A. C. Haynor.  The floral pieces were many and 
beautiful, showing the love and esteem for one who has been such a comfort to 
all who knew her.  Interment in Orleans cemetery.
