Van Hoose, 75, of Greenville, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Campus, Greenville. She was born near Greenville on October 14, 1928, the daughter of Claude and Gertrude Hale Longstreet. Elaine was a graduate of Greenville High School with the class of 1947 and was married to her high school sweetheart, Robert J. Van Hoose, for 57 years. She was a member of Greenville Fist United Methodist Church and formerly the Homemakers of the church. She was employed for Greenville Public Schools in the administration offices for many years and enjoyed her gardens, flowers and was known as a beautiful seamstress. She was preceded in death by her brother, Claude Longstreet; mother-in-law, Madeline Van Hoose, in April 2004; brother-in-law, Jack Van Hoose, in February 2004; sister-in-law, Mary Van Hoose, in 2003; and son-in-law, Gary Petersen, in 2000. She is survived by her husband Robert, daughters, Nancy and Bruce Bertelson of Grand Rapids, Sharon Petersen of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Melissa McIntire, Matt and Beth McIntire, all of Grand Rapids, Katie Burwell of Rochester, Mike and Renee Petersen of Plymouth, Sarah and John Conlen of Clarkston, Cristen Bertelson of Chicago, Ill., Lauren Bertelson of Philadelphia; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Jackson Petersen; nephew, Steve and Kathy Van Hoose of Greenville; niece, Julie Larsen of Ionia; and sister-in- law, Velma Longstreet. Funeral services are noon Friday at Greenville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson officiating. Burial is in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Arthritis Foundation or First United Methodist Church of Greenville.
