VanHoose, age 77 of Greenville, died at home Tuesday, February 3, 2004. He was born in Greenville on April 12, 1926 the son of Floyd and Madeline Seiferd VanHoose. Jack was a veteran of WWII in the US Army serving in Korea. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and was married to Mary J. Hansen on September 18, 1948 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Greenville. Jack was the outdoorsman “Outdoorsman.” He was a hunter and fisherman in many places in the world, formerly owned Jack’s Bait and Tackle Shop,, also worked for Boyd Williams Co., and was a fur buyer. He was a life member of the Michigan Trappers and National Trappers Association, the Flat River Conservation Club, Kent County Conservation Club, Madison Square Gun Club, NRA member, Houghton Lake, Lake Association, Michigan Trap Shooting Association, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, formerly a member of the Greenville Optimist Club, a member of the American Legion Ray I. Booth Post #101 and the VFW Cleveland Wolverton Post #3794 of Greenville. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church where he served a minister of Hospitality, the Knights of Columbus and helped with Meals on Wheels. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Mary on February 15, 2003; his daughter Judy Ann December 14, 1949 and his father. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kathy VanHoose of Greenville, his daughter Julie Larsen and Michael Welsh of Ionia; his grandchildren, Michael and Denell Larsen of Trufant and Sara VanHoose and John VanHoose of Greenville, and great- grandchildren, Makenzie and Jackson Larsen. Also his mother, Madeline; his brother Robert and Elaine VanHoose; brother-in-law, Joe and Hazel Hansen, and sister-in-law Betty Hansen, all of Greenville; nieces and nephews and life long friends, Ron Johnson, Bruce and Sally Schrader and Roy and Fern Weber. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday 10 a.m. from St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Father Phil Salmonowicz as celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, with military honors provided by the American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Charles Building Fund or Michigan Trappers Association.
