VanHorn, for many years a photographer here. Mr. VanHorn was found dead in bed Tuesday by his wife. Death had come as a result of a heart attack. Mr. VanHorn was born in Portland April 23, 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. VanHorn. The only surviving member of the family is his brother, Elmer VanHorn of Portland. It was seven years ago Mr. VanHorn closed his photograph business in this village to remove to Owosso where he has resided since. Funeral services were to be held in Owosso today with burial in that city. From the Owosso Argus-Press, Tuesday, April 15, 1930 George J. VanHorn, aged 60 years, photographer, and owner of VanHorn’s Studio, 204 South Washington street, died suddenly in his sleep in his apartments in the rear of the studio, early this morning. A heart attack is believed to have caused death. Mr. VanHorn had not been ill, and retired last night feeling as well as usual. At 2 o’clock this morning Mrs. VanHorn awakened to find him dead. He had been dead only a short time, apparently. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Jennings & Son’s funeral home. The Rev. Rex O. Holman, pastor of the First Congregational Church, will officiate, and burial will take place here. Owosso commandery, No. 49, Knights Templar, will have charge. Mr. VanHorn was born in Portland, Mich., in 1870, and resided there until he came to Owosso in 1923. he had worked at photography since young manhood, although devoting some time to railroad work. He was married in 1899 in Saginaw, to Miss Katherine Jackson, who, with one daughter, Mrs. Carl Nimz, of Ionia, survives. Mr. VanHorn was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and the Commandery.
