Jan. 24, 1919 Delos VanHouten was born in Fayette, New York, April 2nd, 1835. On July 2nd, 1859 he was united in marriage to Miss Pricilla L. Laveridge who departed this life ten years ago. They made their home in Romulus, New York until September 1865 when they came to Michigan and settled on a farm in Odessa. To this union were born ten children, four dying in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Lester Durkee preceding him seven years ago. He was stricken with paralysis in June 1917, since which time he has gradually failed until his death at the home of his son, Mr. Roy VanHouten, Jan. 16, 1919. He was 83 years, 9 months and 14 days of age. He leaves to mourn his loss, five children as follows: Mrs. J. Curtis of Battle Creek, Mr. Roy and Archie VanHouten Mrs. Sam Snyder and Mrs. Oscar Gray of Lake Odessa, also 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one brother and one sister in New York.
