Lake Odessa Wave-Thursday April 16, 1959

LAVERNE VAN HOUTEN DIED THURSDAY
Laverne O. Van Houten 61, of Sunfield, passed away unexpectedly at his home, 
Thursday morning. He had been a lifelong resident of the local area until moving 
to Sunfield about ten years ago where he operated the Farmer's Gas and oil Co. 
Prior to that time he had farmed his parents farm on Musgrove highway.

Laverne was a graduate of the Lake Odessa high school class of 1915. He was a 
member of the Sunfield Lions Club, and had served on the Sunfield Village 
council.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lula McNeil, a daughter Mrs.Vada Rosher of 
Mason, a son Max of Lake Odessa; his parents Mr and Mrs Archie Van Houten; one 
sister Mrs. Frieda Van Houten of Lake Odessa, ; one brother Merle of Hastings 
and 7 grand children.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Mapes Funeral Home at 
Sunfield with burial in Lake Odessa cemetery.

Rev. Victor Jones officiated.
