Lake Odessa Wave - November 1, 1912
   Martha Crapo was born in Seneca county Ohio, March 28, 1852 and died at
Butterworth Hospital, Grand 
Rapids, Mich., Oct.22, 1912 age sixty years six months and twenty-five days.
   When two years old her parents moved to Odessa township near where she has lived
all her life. 
   Jan. 16, 1870 she became united in marriage to Mr. Henry Van Housten and was the
mother of four children 
as follows; Stanley C. eldest a merchant at Woodland, Mich.. Mamie E.  died at the
age of three years, Harry 
C. died at the age of twenty four years, and Edna now Mrs. Rollie James of Lansing,
Mich.
   Mrs. Van Houten's live was one of loving solicitude and service for her loved
ones, always on the alert to say 
kind things and give cheerful loving council.  Quiet, modest and retiring she
exercised an influence over her 
children that always inspired them to higher things, and while they loose a best
friend, the husband looses a 
faithful companion and the community a trusted helper.
   The funeral, was held Friday at the Congregational church.  The sermon by Rev. W.
J. Prestidge of that 
church.  Singing by Mr. and Mrs. Vern Loomis, Mrs. Alex Usborn and Mr. Leon Gilson. 
Burial at Lakeside.
