September 25, 2010 Roy Max VanHouten SUNFIELD,MI - Roy Max VanHouten, of Sunfield passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Lansing, at the age of 71. He was born October 10, 1938 in Lake Odessa, the son of Max O. and Reva Mae (Goodenough) VanHouten. Roy was a retired custodian for the Lakewood Public Schools. After retirement, he worked part-time for Adesa Auto Auction as a driver.He was an active member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church. Roy's greatest joy was his family. he loved working with children in the community coaching baseball for 22 years, having many first place teams throughout the years.He liked to go to the Lugnuts games and enjoyed watching all sports on TV. Roy and his wife Bonnie thoroughly enjoyed foster parenting for 43 years, and during that time welcomed more than 200 children into their home. On October 24, 1959, Roy married his high school sweetheart,Bonnie (Wilcox) who survives him along with their children, Joseph and Monica. Also Erica,Neva and Heather (Sebastian) Ododa; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle (Karen) and Lee (LeeAnn); three sisters, Joan (Jerry) Deer, Joyce (Tom) gates and Judy (Chuck) Shilton; step-mother, Ruth VanHouten and brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Ardath Wicox. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Arlene and Leo Wilcox. Funeral services were held Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Sunfield United Brethren church, 8436 W.Grand Ledge Hwy., Sunfield.
