The Lake Odessa Wave, December 22, 1922
Gertrude M. Van Houten, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Van Houten, was 
born in Sebewa township March 31, 1895 and died at Blodgett hospital, grand 
Rapids, December 7, 1922, aged 27 years, 8 months and 7 days.

She moved with her parents to their present home when a small child.  In 1912 
she was baptized in the Christian faith and always lived a consistent 
Christian life.  She spent the Sunday previous to her death with her parents.  
She was not in the best of health but returned to her work in Grand Rapids 
Tuesday, her condition became alarming and she was taken to the hospital where 
in spite of the best medical skill and experienced nursing, she passed away 
Thursday evening.  She realized her condition was serious and expressed her 
joy in going to that Heavenly home.

Her death is a shock to her parents and her many friends all of whom loved and 
respected her.  She has gone to join the sister who preceded her four years 
ago and what is our loss is Heaven’s gain.
