The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, March 23, 1955


Chalmer VanHouten, 46, of Montcalm county died Tuesday at the United Memorial 
Hospital, Greenville.  He was born May 30, 1908 in Sebewa township, Ionia 
county.  He was married to Edna Merrifield in 1929.

Mr. and Mrs. VanHouten had been managers at the Montcalm county infirmary and 
farms for 13 years.  Before that they had spent their married life in Ionia 
county.

Surviving besides his wife, Edna, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen 
VanHouten; one sister, Mrs. Harry Denny; four brothers, Gerald, Theo, Keith 
and Paul, of Ionia.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Stebbins 
funeral home in Sheridan.  The Rev. Parvin Lee of Detroit will officiate.  
Burial will be at the Stanwood cemetery at Stanwood.
