Portland Observer, 2 Aug 1899

John VanHouten, father of F. E. VanHouten of Portland and a pioneer of Roxand
township, Eaton county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Dilley, in
Muir, on Monday of last week.  He went to his daughter’s on a visit and was
taken sick while there.  He was buried at Sunfield.  He was 80 years of age.
