H. VanNess, who passed to her eternal rest on Monday morning, will be attended at the late home on West Lincoln avenue, at 2 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, the service to be conducted by Rev. F. P. Arthur of Grand Rapids, a long-time personal friend of the deceased, and of the family. Friends who may so wish, may view the remains between the hours 12 and 2 on day of funeral. Emma M. Fell was born on September 12, 1846, and was the daughter of John and Harriet M. Fell, whose home was near Orangeville, Mercer county, Pennsylvania. She lived with her parents until July 3, 1867, when she was married to John H. VanNess, at Vernon, Trumbull county, Ohio. In April 1868, they came to Ionia and settled in the home which they occupied continuously since, up to the time of her demise, where they enjoyed a harmonious and happy married life. To this union but one child was born, a daughter, Hattie Fell VanNess-Prout, who died on July 24, 1892. Mrs. VanNess was a woman of intensely domestic type; she was happy in her home. Always of cheerful, generous and gentle bearing, she was especially patient and grateful in the later weeks of her severe sickness. There was never a murmer; just a complete Christian resignation to the decree as it is written, and for which she felt herself prepared by her life of usefulness. Of her immediate family only one member survives, a brother, S. C. Fell, of Petoskey, who was at her bedside during the last hours. There are now in the city to attend the funeral: F. J. Hill and wife, Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. James Totten, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Prout and W. B. Hill, of Howard City; S. C. Fell, of Petoskey, and A. L. Fell, of Youngstown, Ohio.
