She was born on May 20, 1931, in Detroit, MI the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Knapp) Sliker. Mrs. VanPoperin was a member of the Michigan Bell Pioneers, First Congregational Church of Portland, and the Portland Civic Players. Sally was a graduate of Cass Tech in Detroit. She was an avid skier, enjoyed playing golf, singing in various choirs and traveling. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jim; brother, Ben Sliker. Surviving are her daughter, Charlene (Al) Lazette of Portland; step children, Gwen (Bill) Coon of St. Johns, and Keith (Judy) VanPoperin of Jackson; grandchildren, Allison (Tony) Lazette-Magnan, Christie (Chris Smith) Lazette, Amy (Shane) Gold, and Dana (Nathan) Ellsworth; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Vera St. Jean. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2015 at the First Congregational Church, 421 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with the Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson presiding. The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
