Violet M. VanSickler passed away Aug. 27, 2006 at the Galesburg Retirement Home,
Galesburg.  Violet was born October 20, 1910 in Portland, the daughter of the
late Lewis W. and Frances L. (Cook) Gibbs.  She was a graduate of Portland High
School and went on to earn her masters degree at Western Michigan University. 
Violet taught school at Midland from 1931-1936, at Galesburg-Augusta from
1954-1960, and then at Parchment for 17 years, retiring in 1976.  She was a long
time member of Galesburg United Methodist Church and a member of the Genevieve
Circle.  She was also a life member of the Royal-Mapleleaf Chapter of the Order
of the Eastern Star #291, the 60-plus Club and a faithful volunteer with the
Comstock Community Center as well as a board member.

Surviving Violet are step-children; Judy (Clinton) Scott of Climax, Paul (Donna)
VanSickler of Skandia; niece, Marilyn (husband - Carroll) Briggs-Pingel; many
grandchildren, great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews; great great nieces
and nephews, and nephews, Cornelius (Dorothy) VanderWeele, James (JoAnne)
VanderWeele.  Preceding her in death were husbands; Bertrand VerCies and Paul
VanSickler; brother Lloyd and sister, Mildred; and nephews Ken Briggs and Bill
Briggs.

Funeral services were held Aug. 30 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes,
Galesburg Chapel with Pastors John Moore, Don Wendell and Mona Joslyn
officiating.  Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo.  Memorials may be
directed in Violet’s name, to Galesburg United Methodist Church or Comstock
Community Center.
