Lake Odessa Wave - September 14, 1961
          FORMER L.O. RESIDENT SUCUMBS IN TEXAS

   Richard C. VanTifflin, 52, of Houston, Texas passed away on Wednesday night.  He
was born at Hastings, 
the son of George and Myrtle VanTifflin and spent his early life in Lake Odessa.  He
is a 1926 graduate of the 
Lake Odessa high school and attended the University of Michigan, Detroit Institute
of Technology and 
American Institute of Banking.  Richard began his business career in 1928 with the
Guardian Detroit group, a 
financial organization as an accountant, joining the Lake Odessa Canning Co. as
assistant superintendent n 
1930 remaining here until 1936.  He then became associated with the Lawrence
Warehouse Co., whose 
offices are in San Francisco, at the company's Chicago branch and went to Houston in
1939 as district 
manager.  Promoted to vice president in 1943, he had charge of the Texas territory
and had a career of rapid 
advancement winning respect from friends and business associates as he was
interested in helping those he 
felt were deserving with out any thought or reward.

   A member of the Houston Chamber of Commerce & Methodist church, his favorite
outdoor leisure was golf.

   Richard married Wilma Shellhorn at Angola Ind., in 1932.

   Surviving besides his wife, are a daughter Mrs. Rosemary Carpenter of Fort Bragg,
N.C., his father and 
stepmother Mrs. and Mrs. George VanTifflin of Lake Odessa; two grandchildren.

   Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p.m. with burial in Lakeside cemetery. 
Rev. F. J. Fitch officiated.
