May 10, 1918 CLARISSA VVAN VLECK MICHIGAN RESIDENT SINCE 1838, IS DEAD Mrs. Clarissa Abagail Van Vleck, 94 years old, a resident of Michigan since 1838, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George A. McIntyre, 327 Henry avenue, S. E., Grand Rapids, Monday afternoon. The daughter of W. Z. Blanchard, one of the pioneer settlers of western Michigan, Mrs. Van Vleck came to this state with her parents behind an ox team when she was 14 years old. Her brother, the late John C. Blanchard, was one of the leading attorneys of the state, and prominent as a Democratic politician. Mrs. Van Vleck has spent the major portion of the last 39 years with her daughter in Grand Rapids. Two other daughters, Mrs. H. J. Holbrook of Lansing and Mrs. Royal G. Evans of Cheboygan, nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren survive. The remains will be brought to Ionia on 4:00 p.m. Grand Trunk train Wednesday afternoon, and taken direct from the depot in the Bradley mortuary car to Palo for interment alongside the remains of her husband gone before, Rev. John Van Vleck.
