The services were conducted by Dr. Van Alstin, assisted by Rev. J. Donnelly of Coldwater, and Dr. Pierson. Dr. Van Alstin paid a high tribute to the deceased as a Christian gentleman; Dr. Pierson as a friend and citizen. Both agreed that the death of Mr. VanVleck created a void in the community which it would be hard fill. The church was filled to overflowing and business was generally suspended during the hour of the services. The remains were taken to Oak Hill cemetery for interment, Alfred Broad, J.L. Reynolds, L.A. Cornell and O. Waterbury acting as bearers.
