VanVleck, 91, of Woodbine, Maryland passed away peacefully on November 4, 2012 in the home of her daughter, Faye. Carol has resided with her family since 1983 but permanently for the last five years. Prior to moving to Woodbine, she resided in Charlotte, Michigan and then Zephyrhills, Florida, where she loved her time spent with many of her Florida snowbirds and her sis and brother-in-law Margaret and Rodney Duvall. Born December 24, 1920 in Muskegon, Michigan she was the daughter of the late Arden C. Weygandt and Fay Sells. She graduated from Lake Odessa High in 1939. She married Ivan L. Ross, and later married Fred I. VanVleck. Prior to marriage she worked in a canning factory in Lake Odessa, and a restaurant in Lansing. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings; brothers, Earl, Marvin, Max, and George Weygandt, and sisters Leta Weygandt, Wilma Weygandt, and Margaret Duvall. She is survived by four children; daughters Fay Hodiak (Dick) of Woodbine, Maryland; Bonnie Vaught (Jim) of Loris, South Carolina; and Nellie VanVleck of New Port Richey, Florida; and son Fred A. VanVleck (Sheila) of Sunfield, Michigan. Carol is also survived by six grandchildren; Rick Hodiak (Linda) of Westminster, Maryland; Carol Chaney (Tom) of Libertytown, Maryland; James Vaught (Bobbie Jo) of Quenemo, Kansas, Taryn Wrigt (Brad) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Tama VanVleck of Sunfield, Michigan; and Shane Vaught of Clemson, South Carolina. She was a proud great greatgrandma to ten; Michelle and Nicole Hodiak; Matthew, Mark, and Luke Chaney; Taliesin VanVleck, Cameron and Dalton Wright; and Ashlie Bailey and Kathryn Vaught. In addition, she is survived by two sisters-in-law Joan Weygandt of Lake Odessa, Michigan, and Marie Weygandt of Big Rapids, Michigan. She was Aunt Carol to many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was known as Grandma Carol by her wonderful church family bf Jennings Chapel. Carol's greatest joy was her family and the times when many would gather for food, laughter and a good game of cards. She was also an avid crafter. She enjoyed creating and making crafts but her greatest enjoyment was seeing others enjoy her many creations. She often gave away her crafts for the church or two nursing homes. She was generous with her creations. The family would like to thank Kelley Berge, Gramdma Carol's caregiver, who came into her life earlier this year and became very dear to her and the family. The family thanks her special care and great devotion to Carol. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Howard County. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church, 2601 Jennings Chapel Road, Woodbine, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jennings Chapel UMC or Gilchrist Hospice Care, 5537 Twin Knolls Road, Suite 433, Columbia, Maryland 21043.
