Van Vleck died this morning at his home on West Main street, following an illness with pneumonia. His death was entirely unexpected by his friends in the city many of whom had not learned until Monday that he was ill. He had been ailing for a week or ten days, but he did not give up and as late as Friday was down town. He was of thoroughly robust health and did not take his sickness seriously. His death was a shock to his many friends throughout the city. Mr. Van Vleck came to Ionia a few years ago and bought the Chamberlain garage where he has since been engaged in business. He was the son of Supervisor R. H. Van Vleck of Ronald township, who together with his mother and two brothers are living. He is survived by Mrs. Van Vleck and one son ten years of age. He was 34 years of age and in the prime of life and health when so unexpectedly called upon to answer the final summons. The funeral was held this afternoon at Palo Baptist church.—Ionia Sentinel Jan. 8.
