LAKE ODESSA- Mrs. Leonor M. Vargas, 75, of 747 Second avenue, died Sunday 
morning at St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing where she had been a patient for 6 
weeks.

Before being admitted to St. Lawrence hospital, Mrs. Vargas had been a patient 
in the Provincial House in Lansing for four years. 

She was born in Alva, Texas August 24, 1901, the daughter of Loepoldo 
Mercadante and Bernarda Garcia.

Mrs. Vargas was employed by the Lake Odessa canning company and had moved to 
Lake Odessa in 1942 from Texas. She was a member of St. Edward’s church.

Survivors include one son Hilarion (Eli) Casillias of Grand Ledge; six 
daughters, Mrs. Agnes Bartlett of Grand Ledge, Mrs. Susie Cooley, Mrs. Rebecca 
Galaviz and Mrs. Janie Rodriguez of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Stellla Silvas and 
Mrs. Elvira Rivera of Lansing; one sister, Mrs. Aurora Ramirez of Sand Spring, 
Oklahoma; 35 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

One son Porfirio (Pilo) Casillias and one daughter, Mrs. Connie Harter, 
preceded her in death.

Services are Wednesday at 11 am from St. Edward’s church.

Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7 pm from the Pikens-Koops funeral chapel in 
Lake Odessa.

Burial is in Lakeside cemetery.
