Ionia Sentinel-Standard – Mon. Nov. 29, 1971

Funeral services for Michael J. Vargo, Sr., 58, of 116 High will be Tuesday at 
1:30 pm at Stone-Kauffman funeral home. Interment will be at Balcom cemetery.

Mr. Vargo was found dead at his home Saturday afternoon by his sister, Mrs. 
Leonard Andres of Ionia. Coroner Richard Hull ruled death due to a heart attack 
at it was assumed he died sometime Tuesday.

He was born August 14, 1913, at South Norwalk, Conn., the son of Michael and 
Elizabeth Ritzu Vargo. He had lived at his present residence the past seven 
years. Formerly living in Virginia he had moved to Michigan to the Fowler and 
Pewamo areas before coming to Ionia several years. 

He was a member of Temple Baptist church and had been employed at Mitchell 
Bentley Corporation and also Saranac Sprayer company.

Surviving are a son, Michael, Jr., of Detroit; daughter, Mrs. J.B. Pointer, 
Jr., of Mecosta; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Nagy, Mrs. Leonard 
Andres and Mrs. Elizabeth Hiner, all of Ionia, Mrs. Basil Powers of Grand 
Rapids; three brothers, John of Ionia, Steven of Belding and Joseph of Grand 
Rapids.

A memorial has been established for Temple Baptist Church.
