Patricia A. Varney, 72, of Greenville, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, at 
her home.  The daughter of Harry Raymond and Eva Cleo Hart Thornburg, she was 
born February 2, 1931 in Parker, Indiana.  

On June 8, 1949, in Lakeview, she married Gerald A. Varney.  Mrs. Varney was a 
retiree of the former Gibson Refrigerator Co./WCI and was a devoted and loving 
wife, mother and grandmother.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry C. Varney on November 13, 
1998; husband, Gerald A. Varney on August 20, 2001; and daughter, Sharon F. 
Ciganik, on August 29, 2002.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Dan Varney, Russ and Linda 
Varney, all of Greenville; son-in-law, Kevin Ciganik; sister and brother-in-
law, Lola and Charles Hansen of Greenville; two brothers and three sisters-in-
law, Charles and Yvonne Thornburg of Lakeview, Harold and Jan Thornburg of 
Gowen, Thelma Thornburg of Mount Rose; siblings-in-law, Norma Jean and Norm 
Ulch of Harrison, Stan Bauman of Springfield, Oregon, Leonard and Ermetta 
Varney of Greenville, Jerry Varney of Coral, Irene Varney, Alberta Varney, 
Genevieve Varney, all of Greenville; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 
several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and 
nephews.

In honoring Mrs. Varney’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Graveside 
services are 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, with 
the Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson, pastor of First United Methodist Church, 
officiating.  Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville is serving 
the family and has been entrusted with the arrangements.
