Vaughn were largely attended by relatives and friends Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the residence, East Main street. The service of the Episcopal church was read by the rector of St. John's church, Rev. W. H. Thomas D. D., assisted by Rev. Cyrus Mendenhall, who spoke touchingly of deceased and of his generous and kind-hearted spirit. The remains were carried to the grave in Highland Park cemetery by officers of the S. H. of C., F. M. Douglass, H. S. Hart, J. H. Collins and Henry Jones. Music was rendered by Mrs. Parsons, Miss Whipple at the organ. Those here to attend the funeral were Mrs. Riley, mother, and C. C. Vaughn, brother, and wife of St. Johns, and a sister, Mrs. Jackson of Buffalo, New York. Deceased also leaves besides his wife, three sons by a former wife, two of whom, Dessie and William, are residents of this city. There was a profusion of flowers, conspicuous among them being a handsome pillow of Easter lilies and roses from inmates of the house of corrections with the words "Our Friend". Deceased was 48 years of age, and his death is one of the many sad ones that has occurred in Ionia during the past year."
