Hastings Reminder, 11 Oct 2005

On October 9, 2005, Maria Vela of Lake Odessa was called to be with the Lord.  
She was born Maria De Jesus Gonzalez on August 27, 1925 to Pablo and Gregoria 
(Silvas) Gonzales of Encinal, Texas.  

Maria was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Bertha; husband, Jose Mario 
Vela; brothers, Pablo Jr., Manuel, and Alex; and her parents, Pablo and 
Gregoria.  She is survived by her sons, Joe (Pat) Vela Jr., Frank (Pam) Vela, 
Ruben Vela, and John Vela; daughters, Norma (John) Salazar, Irma Galaviz, Mary 
(Rey) Martinez, Linda (Pablo) Salazar, and Rosie Zendejas; 31 grandchildren; 52 
great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister, Victoria Ruiz; 
brother, Oscar Gonzales, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Maria had been a member of the ladies Auxiliary of VFW.  She loved listening to 
her Spanish music, watching Spanish programs on TV, and enjoyed the company of 
her children and grandchildren.  She will be sadly missed by her family and 
friends.

Visitation will be at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa from 2-4 and 6-8 
p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2005.  The funeral service will be held at the 
Koops Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, October 12 at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in 
Lakeside Cemetery.  The family has suggested contributions may be made to 
Heartland Hospice.  Arrangements by Koops Funeral Chapel.
