Maria Delores Velasquez, aged 85, of Ionia passed away Oct. 11, 2014.  She was 
born Jan. 7, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Felix and Luisa 
(Castro) Hernandez.  Maria married Arturo Velasquez May 5, 1947, in Westphalia.

She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church.  She loved to sew, garden, 
do crafts and cook.  No one ever left her house hungry.

Maria is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Arturo; children Erma 
Terry of Six Lakes, Arthur Velazquez of Ionia, Richard Velasquez Sr. of Muir, 
Virginia Raddatz of Stanton and Sandra Lake of Ionia; brothers Felix Hernandez 
II of Portland, Marshall (Sarah) Hernandez of Oklahoma and Carlos (Rose) 
Hernandez of Greenville; sisters Virginia Luna of Portland, Gloria (David) 
Borton of Ionia and Linda (Ralph) Sandavol of Ionia; 17 grandchildren; 29 great 
grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Felix; daughter Christina; 
brothers Raymond, Joseph, Veto and Mario and sister Minie Cantu; grandchildren 
Anthony, JC and Nicole and great grandson James.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at 1 p.m. at SS Peter 
& Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Boufford celebrant.  Visitation will be 
on Wednesday 11 a.m. until the time of services at the church. 

Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Foundation or 
the American Cancer Society.  Funeral Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia.
