The services were conducted from the home at 1:30 p.m. and from the Boynton chapel at 2 o'clock. Rev. F.J. Fitch, pastor of the Baptist church, officiated. Burial was in the Tuttle cemetery. Mr. Velia was trimming a tall poplar tree at the home of Norman J. Ogilvie at the corner of Washington and Jefferson street late Friday afternoon when his foot slipped as he was about to lower a branch. He pitched downward striking the lawn upon his neck and shoulders, according to Harvey DeHart, who was aiding him in the tree trimming. Dies Two Hours Later DeHart, aided by several residents of the vicinity, rushed the injured man to the Community hospital. There it was found Velia had suffered a fracture of the lower part of his neck and a broken rib. He remained unconscious until he died two hours later. The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. Unemployed for nearly two years, Velia had arranged to trim trees at various homes in return for firewood gained from the cut branches. Several others had been approached with proposal to trim the tall poplar, it was revealed later but had refused the job as they considered it to dangerous because of the height of the tree. Was Working For Self Tho the tree was one of several marked by the city for trimming in a recent survey of the community, Velia was working for himself at the time of the accident and was not on the city payroll.
