Ionia Daily Sentinel, 26 Nov 1951

August Velia, 80, died at the Ionia County Memorial hospital Monday, November 
26, at 12:45 a.m. after being a patient there since Friday.  He has been ill 
for six weeks.

For the past eight years he had been making his home with his sister, Mrs. 
George Chadwick, of 527 West Washington street.

He was born in Niagara county, N. Y., January 22, 1871, son of Frank and 
Harriet Velia.  He spent the greater part of his life in Gratiot county.

Surviving are two brothers, Ray of Breckenridge and Archie of Ionia, and six 
sisters, Mrs. Anna Wolverton of Coopersville, Mrs. Chadwick of Ionia, Mrs. Mary 
Gresco of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Harry Smith of St. Louis and Mrs. Ella Duffy and 
Mrs. Albert Scheible of Ionia.

Funeral services will be conducted at SS. Peter and Paul church Wednesday at 9 
a.m.  Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.  Rosary will be said at the 
Boynton funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
