The son of Raymond and Maryann Daniels VerHey, he was born Dec. 20, 1946, in Grand Rapids. A graduate of Belding High School, Roger retired from AT&T/Lucent Technology after 30 years of service. On Sept. 24, 1984, in Henderson, Ky., he married Patricia Ripley. For the past 30 years, Roger’s greatest passion was the antique business. In 1991 he opened the Greenville Antique Center in the former Greenville Furniture Company building in downtown Greenville. He spent seven days a week at the store – enjoying every minute of it. He is survived by his wife, Pat VerHey; their children, Rhonda and Jim Heimbecker of Greenville, Denise and Capt. Dennis Shelden of Fort Bragg, N.C., Leighann and Craig Wondergem of Greenville, Kurt DeVries of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren, Scott and Morgan Heimbecker, Brandy and Christa Steele, all of Greenville, Derek and Jenna Sharp, Chelsea Shelden, all of Fort Bragg, N.C., Madilyn and Eleanor Wondergem of Greenville, Ryan DeVries of Cheyenne, Wyo; brothers and sisters, Nancy and Gerry Dodds of Grand Rapids, Richard VerHey of Fort Wayne, Ind., Dan VerHey of Corpus Christi, Texas, Marilyn Matthews of Grand Rapids; siblings-in-law, Sue Martin, David Ripley, Ted Ripley, all of Grand Rapids, Philip and Trish Ripley of Saranac. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Friday at Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin St., Greenville, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger, pastor of Shiloh Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
