May 18, 1971 Emery G. Vermilya, Sr., 74, of 450 King died Tuesday evening at Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids where he had been a patient eight weeks. He had been a resident of Ionia area 50 years. Born in Wildwood, December 20, 1896, he was the son of William and Florence Owen Vermilya. He was employed by Jewel Tea company 13 years, Ionia State hospital two years and was retired from Michigan Reformatory in Ionia after working there 17 years. He was also a carpenter, painter and paper hanger. A member of IH Mission church in Ionia he was state treasurer of World Gospel Missions. December 23, 1920, he was married to Mildred Seavolt at Mulliken. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in December of 1970. Surviving besides the wife Mildred, are two sons, William of Upland, Calif. and Emery, Jr., of Mulliken; one daughter, Mrs. Eula Curtiss of Lake Odessa; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 pm at Leddick funeral home. Rev. Earl Ritenburgh assisted by Rev. John Sturk, both of Owosso, will conduct services. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial fund is to be established and contributions may be made at the Leddick funeral home.
