The end was entirely unexpected, and came without warning. Mr. and Mrs. Villa have lived here about a year and a half, and opened their store, the Princess, last fall. Besides his wife Mr. Villa leaves two nephews, Frank and James Villa. Mr. Villa’s health has been poor for many years. Subsequent Publication: Friday, August 20, 1915 Nicholas Villa, proprietor of the Princess, died at half past one, Thursday afternoon at the home in the Wager block. He had been ill for about three years, but it was only during the past week that his sickness was considered serious. He was in Grand Rapids for a few days the first of the week but was brought back here and had been confined to his bed ever since. Tuesday noon, however, he seemed better, and the end came without a second’s warning and was a great shock. Mr. Villa retired from business in Grand Rapids at the time that his illness first appeared, having kept a store next to the Pantlind Hotel for twenty-five years before that. It is thirty-four years since he came to American from Genoa, Italy, where he was born fifty-three years ago. After retirement in Grand Rapids Mr. Villa did no active work. The store here was opened just eleven months before his death, and has been conducted by Mrs. Villa and by a nephew, Frank Villa, whom Mr. and Mrs. Villa brought up. Their only child, a boy, died twelve years ago. Another nephew, James Villa, lives in this city. Mr. Villa leaves, besides the relatives here, two sisters in Grand Rapids, one in Italy, a brother in France and one in America. The funeral was held on Monday morning at nine o’clock at St. Andrew’s Chapel in Grand Rapids, and burial took place in the family lot there.
