After the loss of her parents when she was but a child of five years, she lived with her grandparents, John and Ann Walker, in Loughborough and Charnwood Forest, a portion of the ancient Sherwood Forest. At the age of 15 she was confirmed in the Episcopal church of England. Six years later when there was so much interest awakened by the great Chicago fire, she came to America. Then in 1872 she came to Belding where the duties of a nurse called her. On June 10th, 1874 she was united in marriage with Jerome B. Vincent, a pioneer merchant of Belding. Five children were born to this union: Earl R., of Ann Arbor; Jennie B. Warner and Jessie A., of this city, Mary E., and LeRoy, who preceded the mother in death. Two stepsons: Hiram H., of Belding, and Alvah J., deceased, were tenderly cared for, and they ever regarded her as mother. Eight grandchildren: Jerome Glynn, Reed, Elmo, Lorna and Van Vincent; Floyd, Ilah and LeRoy Warner, and two great-grandchildren, Phillip and Eugene Vincent, have been her greatest pride in her declining years. After a year of ill health, she passed away peacefully May 10th at 12:30 a.m., in the home on N. Bridge street, where she had lived for fifty years. Burial was in River Ridge cemetery beside the husband who departed this life April 14, 1920. As a good neighbor, a loyal friend, a loving, sacrificing mother, she will be remembered, and loved ones left to mourn will miss the helpfulness, the kindliness, the smile, and cheer she gave.
