Lakewood News - April 27, 2013

Max Vipond, age 84, of Lake Odessa went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 
23, 2013 at his home with his wife by his side.

Max was born August 24, 1928 to William and Janet (Warcup) in Kalkaska. Max 
began his banking career at Kalkaska State Bank then continued at Wayland State 
Bank. He retired from Union Bank in Lake Odessa as president after 30 years of 
Service.

Max married Virginia L. Austin on April 29, 1949 at the Trout Festival in 
Kalkaska, with 5,000 people in attendance. Mayor Paul Goebel of Grand Rapids 
gave away the bride.

When Max was not working he enjoyed woodworking, building many fine custom 
furnishings for the house and for his family.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Virginia; children, Martin (Ellen) Vipond 
of Lake Odessa, Bruce (Elizabeth) Vipond of Marion, IN, Frederick J. Vipond of 
Mundelein, IL, and sisters Olga Schoeppler of Ohio and Shirley (Jack) Deardorff 
of Texas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Max in death are his parents; daughters, Virginia Lea and Alice; son, 
Steven J.; sisters, Janet Earl, Dorothy Hollifield, Patricia Spencer.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. 
at Koops Funeral Chapel, 935 4th Ave. Lake Odessa, MI 48849. Rosary will be 
said at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 531 
Jordan Lake St., Lake Odessa, MI 48849 on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11 a.m.

Memorials in Max’s name may be given to Hospice of Ionia County, 601 E. 
Washington ST. Ionia, MI 48849-1871, or the St. Edwards Church Foundation.
