Germany 1863 to son of Joseph & Charlotte Lowell Ledger – Friday, Oct. 25, 1895 TYPHOID AT IONIA. Ionia seems threatened with an epidemic of typhoid fever. Tuesday the death of Clement J. Voight is announced. Today Mrs. Mary E. Kishpaugh and her two daughters, Millie and Blanch, are down with the disease, as are also Mabel Coe, Susan Haight, Frank Batson and a number of others. The case of young Batson is of the most putrid form. One side of his face has turned black, while from the other he has removed the skin in frantic clawing with his fingers in delirium. Health Officer Tremayne was asked as to the cause of the trouble and replied that he was unable to say unless it was caused by West creek which, with the sewer to that vicinity, is in a very unsanitary condition. He was very sure it was not caused by Ionia’s water supply.
