PASSED AWAY AFTER SHORT ILLNESS ------------ After an illness of only a few days William H. Voorhis passed away at his home on Sixth avenue last Thursday morning following a heart attack. He was 73 years of age. Mr. Voorhis came to Lake Odessa twenty-three years ago and won the respect of all who knew him by his pleasing personality and a manner that inspired confidence in his integrity. He was employed by Jason Peacock in his grocery. For three years he managed the A.M. Smith egg and cream station at Sunfield and has been employed at the Lake Odessa school building. Years ago he clerked in the Naher store here. He and his wife were attendants and workers in the First United Brethren church here. He was quiet and unassuming yet friendly and always willing to do a kindly deed for others. OBITUARY William H. Voorhis was born in Washtenaw county, Michigan, June 10, 1861, and died at this home in Lake Odesa, September 6, 1934, at the age o 73 years, two months and 27 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Alma walker of Williamston, Mich., March 4, 1886. To this union were born two children; Earl A. Voorhis of Arkansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Howard Pepper of Grand Blanc, Mich A brother and sister have preceded him in death. He made the good confession and was baptized at Boyne City, Mich. in 1893. He came to Lake Odessa in 1910, where he has lived until he answered the call. He is survived by his widow, a son ad daughter, five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him. He was a loving husband and father and sincere friend, liked by all who knew him. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. A. J. Beardsley of Woodland. The music was furnished ay a male quartet. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery. Pepper of Grand Blanc, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Voorhis of Ann Arbor, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Voorhis of Detroit, Frank Walker of Stockbridge and daughter Miss Jessie Walker of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Luick of Chelsea, Mr. and Mr. Mrs. and Mrs. Coulson, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Eston, Del Eston Mrs. Myra Eston and children. Mr. and Mrs. Eash, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Verde Easton and Mr. and Mrs. Del Easton, all of Jackson; Mr. and Mr. Perry Potter and family of Lansing, and Mrs. Pepper and daughter Miss Lulu Pepper of Grand Ledge. ------------- CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere appreciation for all kindness shown us during the illness and death of our husband and father.
