He was born Feb. 29, 1920 in Holland, the son of Arie and Teanetta (Vandervisse) Vos. He married the former Hilda Mae Kirby Jan. 18, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1975. He would then marry Aileen Roach on Oct. 9, 1975. Vernon was an Ionia business man working with his wife Hilda for 36 years as the owner and operator of Vern’s Bicycle, Toy and Key Shop in Ionia, until retiring in 1976. He is survived by his son, Dan (Desi) Vos of Ionia; two daughters, Beverly (Bob) Finch of Pewamo and Janice (David) Godden of Ionia; step-children, John Roach of Texas, Sherry Helms of South Carolina, Goldie Roach of South Carolina, Forrest (Carol) Herzog of Fenwick, Vern (Patricia) Roach of Indiana and Von Roach of Ionia; sisters-in-law, Joan Vos of Lansing, Joyce Hoezee of Holland, Bonnie Ward of Grand Rapids, Mildred Edmonds of Belding, Marie Smith of Ionia, Ella Mae (Lloyd) Dye of Ionia; brothers-in-law, Eugene Van Vleck of Ionia and Leonard (Roxie) Kirby of Florida; step-brother, Russell Martin; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene Vos and Edward Vos; and one step-sister, Barbara Tasker. Funeral services for Vernon will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at Shiloh Community Church with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia Area Hospice or the Shiloh Community Church in care of the funeral home.
