He received a Master of Library Science degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1972. During his career, he worked for three library systems. His final job was a librarian for the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia. Glen is survived by his mother Lenore Purcey of Lansing and friends, Kirk and Marie Vredevelt, surrogate niece and nephew Elizabeth and Henry Vredevelt (Alto) Bob McCoy (Grand Rapids), Barbara Gingrich (Richfield, Pa.) his church family and many others. Glenn was a passionate reader and book lover. His quick and intelligent mind made him a wordsmith and a keen observer of any situation. He loved the church and Christian theology. In this pursuit he attended seminary and sought work in Christian service. Glenn also loved to travel around the United States. Glenn was also passionate about stewardship and charity. He lived his life rich with culture and dreamed of writing that elusive novel that always seemed just out of his grasp. Glen was an active member of St. John the Apostle Episcopal Church in Ionia, where he served on the Vestry. He also improved the church library and taught adult Christian education classes. Glenn departed this worked to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. His remains will be interred at Bowne Mennonite Church Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, followed by a reception and fellowship in the parish hall.
