January 25, 2025 VROMAN Joyce Elaine (Curtis) Vroman age 95 of Saranac passed away peacefully January 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Oct. 27, 1929 in Woodland,MI the daughter of Sylvester and Vera Curtis. She lived on a farm with modest means with her ten sisters and five brothers where small pleasures were deeply enjoyed. Oh..the stories she could tell o f her childhood years while growing up in such a large family. She unfortunately had to endure the passing of all her siblings and is the last of the 16 Curtis children. Joyce married the love of her life,Gilbert, on July 16, 1949. They were married 58 years until Gilbert's passing in December 2007. She and Gil traveled extensively visiting several states and enjoyed over 20 years as snowbirds in Bullhead City,AZ. They also spent many enjoyable summers at Silver Lake with family and friends. For 26 years both Gil and Joyce were active in supporting the Saranac Fire Department Pancake Supper fundraising efforts. She was a loving, stay-at-home mother to her six children and enjoyed all the daily activites a busy home life would entail(except for packing all those school lunches). She was an exceptional bookkeeper for Gilbert's portable feed grinding service for over 40 years and over 10 years for two of her son's woodworking business. You could say her sdding machine was her second husand! She never paid a dime to anyone to prepare taxes as she did her own until her demise. She enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and was an avid MSU fan. When the game was close you could only hope a pair of ear plugs wre close by! An occasional trip to the casino would bring a "twinkle to her eye" and most times more money in her pocket. She enjoyed playing cards, holiday get-togethers, cooking meals and baking apple pies. She loved to dine out with Chined food being her favorite.Mom enjoyed being with friends, family and grandkids. She was not only our mom but our best friend,. We will miss her loving care, wisdom and just being here with us. We will cherish many memories as a family and find peace knowing that mom and dad are together in heaven forever. A special thank you to the staff at Green Acres of Ionia and Interim Health Care Hospice for their loving care. Joyce leaves behind six children, Mitch (Melissa) Vroman of Saranac, Deb Brown of Ionia, Dave(Laura) Vroman of Ionia, Don(Tina) Vroman of Orleans,Cathy(Mike) Topp of Saranac, Ken Vroman of Ionia, 6 grandchildren,20 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
