Vroman, age 80, of Saranac, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007. He was born Dec. 30, 1926 in Lansing the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Benedict) Vroman. Gilbert married Joyce Curtis July 16, 1949 in Coats Grove, Mich. He was a WWII Navy veteran. Gilbert was a member of the Saranac American Legion, Saranac Community Church and a past member of the Saranac Fire Department. He operated a portable mill in the Ionia county area for over 40 years. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 58 years, children Mitchell (Melissa) Vroman of Saranac, Debra Brown of Clarksville, Donald (Tina) Vroman of Saranac, David (Laura) Vroman of Ionia, Cathy (Mike) Topp of Saranac and Kenneth Vroman of Saranac, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 3 step- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, 2 sisters and 1 stepbrother. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Saranac Community Church with Rev. John Madvig officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saranac Fire Department or the Ionia Area Hospice.
