Mr. Vroonland was a guard at the Ionia Reformatory for 15 years, before retiring in 1959, when he entered the facility for three years. he was a World War I army veteran and participated in the Russian campaign. He was also a member of the American Legion in Grand Rapids. Surviving are his wife, Lena; three sisters, Mrs. Peter Wierenga and Mrs. Jon Rottschafer, both of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Ray Mareck of Chicago; two brothers, Albert of Iowa and Peter of Belmont. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 23, in the DeVries funeral home with Chaplain William Swierenga of the Veterans Facility officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
