Jan. 18, 1969 & Mon. Jan. 20, 1969 Mrs. Helen Vultaggio of Detroit died early Saturday at Detroit Osteopathic hospital at High Park. She was the former Helen Milton of Ionia and leaves one sister, Mrs. Edith Nobel of Grand Rapids. Funeral arrangements are being made by Myers funeral home. Mrs. John Vultaggio, 63, formerly Helen Milton, of 214 Allen road, Ferndale, died early Saturday at Detroit Osteopathic hospital, following a year’s illness. Born in Ionia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Milton owner of Plaza hotel 40 years, she attended Ionia elementary school and graduated from Ionia high school with the class of 1923. She received a BA degree from Western Michigan university in 1927 and took a teaching position in Hamtramck where she taught instrumental music, English, French and mathematics for many years. She later changed to elementary education until her retirement in 1965 following 38 years of teaching. Having no children of her own, Mrs. Vultaggio made all children she came in contact with her personal interest and did many extra things for her students and the children in the family. Many of these pupils felt this special interest in their welfare and attributed their success to her encouragement and enthusiasm and have expressed their appreciation for the influence she made in their lives. She received letters, pictures and personal contact through their school years, to graduation, further education and continued into married life to tell her so. Mrs. Vultaggio resided in the Detroit area all the years following her college graduation. Besides teaching she was active in organizations and a member of the Ferndale Presbyterian church. Following retirement she continued her interest in music all the creative arts and continued to study foreign languages. She is survived by her husband, John Vultaggio of Ferndale and a sister, Mrs. Sydney Noble of Grand Rapids. Family was at Myers funeral home Sunday from 2 until 4 pm and 7 until 9 pm. Funeral services were Monday at 2:30 pm with Rev. Robert McComb of First Presbyterian church officiating and burial was at Balcom cemetery.
