Waara, 60 died Friday evening at the St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing. He had been a patient three weeks being treated for a heart condition. He had made his home at 740 Riverside drive, Portland, and was a resident of Portland 20 years. He sold the Portland Country club a year ago due to ill health. Born June 9, 1915, at Hancock, he was the son of Otto and Lydia Schuler Waara. He was a member of the Portland Chamber of Commerce, army veteran of World War II, member of the Portland post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of the Professional Golfer’s association 42 years. Besides his wife, Olafia, he leave a son, Norman of Santa Barbara, Calif., two daughters, Lilya Waara of Portland, and Mrs. Lola Pline of Pewamo; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Merriman of Bronson and Mrs. Sylvester Jansen of Garden City. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Neller funeral home at Portland. Rev. Harold Homer will officiate and interment will be at the Portland cemetery.
