Sister Matthew Dies at Convent

Sister Matthew (Ellen) Wacha, 75, of Grand Rapids, passed away last Wednesday 
from a heart attack at St. Stephens convent.

A member of the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids since 1917, her teaching 
career spanned more tan 50 years. She had held teaching assignments in the 
Saginaw and Grand Rapids Diocese and had taught elementary grades at SS. Peter 
and Paul's, St. Anthony's Blessed Sacrament and St. Stephen's schools. The last 
few years Sister Matthew specialized in library work and as an elementary grade 
story teller. For several years she held a story hour for children at Sigsbee 
school.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Alice) Christian of Wyoming and Mrs. 
Francis (Geraldine) Gee of Muir; four brothers, Hugh and Lawrence Wacha of 
Orleans, John of Belding and Thomas of Lake Odessa. 

Funeral services were held on Saturday at Maywood Chapel with burial in 
Resurrection cemetery.
