          ODESSA PIONEER FOR THIRTY-FIVE YEARS

FAITHFUL OLD CHRISTIAN MAN WHOSE DEATH WAS MENTIONED LAST WEEK
                                  -----------
                                  OBITUARY
   Phillip A. Wacha was born in Crawford county, Ohio, July 10, 1836 and departed
this life May 5, 1920 at the 
age of 83, 9 months and 25 days.  He was the oldest of seven children and lived n
the parental home until he 
was 27 years of age.  In the year 1865 he came to Michigan and located on his farm
two and one-half miles 
north of Lake Odessa, which was at the time a forest.
   In 1870 he returned to Ohio and married Martha A. Green of Groveport, Ohio, and
returned to his farm 
where they lived 33 years.  Feeling that their health was falling them, they moved
into their new home in Lake 
Odessa in 1899.
   He was converted and joined the United Brethren church at Middletown, Ohio, at
the age of sixteen and 
after coming to Michigan in 1868 a United Brethren class was organized at West
Odessa of which he was a 
charter member.  He was superintendent of the first Sunday school in West Odessa and
served in nearly 
every capacity of the church.  He was also a charter member of the Odessa Farmers
Club and enjoyed the 
fellowship of the brother farmers.
   His wife, Martha A. Wacha, died February 28, 1912.
   He leaves to mourn his loss one married daughter, Mrs. Lulu Mourer, two brothers,
one sister, three 
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
   He was patient always happy and strong in the faith of the future life.
   The funeral took place Saturday, May 8, in the Liberal U. B. church, his pastor,
Rev. C. H. Zuse, officiating.  
Burial in Lakeside cemetery.
