The coffin was empty but once contained the remains of Mrs. Wadleigh, mother of Charles Bean's first wife, who was buried there over 40 years. Rev. A.W. Dodge and several others of our older residents attended the funeral. The remains were subsequently removed by Mr. Bean to Oakhill cemetery. As the coffin was badly decayed, it was left in the grave, ad remains were placed in a new casket. The grave was kept enclosed with a picket fence until after the removal. With the decay of the fence, all mark of the spot was lost. Additional Comments: w/ Charles Bean family in 1860 Ionia census. b. 1791 Nancy age 69 b. Ct.
